You haven't seen the SuperBowl until you've seen it in Japan. At 8:00 AM. On your PC via video conference jerry rig.
If you're a poor gaijin teacher, such as yours truly, you probably don't have satellite. How then, can you watch the Patriots lose? All you need is a friend whose got a web cam. Fire up Skype, and have her point the cam towards the TV. You'll even get to see the commercials you'd usually miss.
Sadly, this was not the first time I employed such a high tech/low tech solution to my football needs. Luckily, I'm not much of a sports fan. The first time I had reason to watch a football game was when my alma mater, The University of Florida, was going up against Ohio for the national championship. Oh the booyahs I got to scream in the face of my colleagues from Ohio!
And now, the Patriots thought they could take Miami's unique record, of being the only team to go an undefeated season. I had to see them lose, I had to see Miami's record stand. And stand it did.
I leave you with my favorite notes from our triumphant fight song:
"They're in the air
they're on the ground
they're always in control
and when you say Miami
you're talking Superbowl!*"
